Police in Gyalpoizhing of Monggar arrested a 19-year-old man for the alleged possession of marijuana (cannabis). Police found 28 grams of cannabis and less than a kilogram of hashish in his possession. He was arrested yesterday.
According to police, the suspect was on his way to Bumthang from Tsamang in Monggar. Following information from a source, police arrested him from Yongkola. He also tested positive for substance abuse. Police are investigating the case.
The offence of illicit trafficking of cannabis and its derivatives is a felony of the third degree if the quantity is more than two times the permissible quantity of seven grams, and a felony of fourth-degree if the quantity is more than the permissible quantity but equal to or less than two times the quantity determined. The offence carries a prison term ranging from three to nine years.
