In the early 2000s, when farmers of Toedtsho Gewog in Trashi Yangtse got a new water supply, their long-standing water woes were solved. However, their joy didn’t last long. Due to natural disasters, the water supply became erratic, forcing them to depend on small springs nearby.  But today, they have a reason to smile again. The DeSuup National Water Service Project provided them with a new water source.

Whenever it rains, landslides washed away pipes, leaving the taps dry in the villages. People struggled without enough water to drink. But today, Dupchu Zangmo of Tokshing village is nurturing her vegetables like never before. For the first time in years, she has had enough. And she plans to grow more.

“Now that we have a reliable water supply, we are already planning to grow vegetables on large scale. We are grateful to the Dessups for their contribution,” she said.

The new water source is also a new blessing to the farmers of Sertsho chiwog.

“This gift from His Majesty The King not only made our lives more convenient but it also gives avenues for commercial farming,” said Tshewang, a resident of Braksa.

Works for the water supply began in July with about 75 DeSuups. After installing nearly 70 new taps and two major reservoirs, the work was completed recently, a month before the deadline. It was inaugurated on November 11, coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

The new water source, worth nearly Nu 10 M will benefit more than 850 people of nearly 140 families in the gewog.
