To suit the current needs of the mining sector, the economic affairs ministry has revised about 36 provisions under the Mines and Minerals Management Regulations 2002. It will be implemented in a week or two. Economic Affairs Minister Loknath Sharma says the country now needs to resume its mining activities.

The Department of Geology and Mines suspended private applications for mining activities last year. This was in an expectation for the Mines and Minerals Bill 2020 to pass last year in the parliament.
