Farmers from Tsirang, Punakha and Wangduephodrang have now started selling vegetables at Punatshangchhu project in Wangduephodrang. Until today, the supply used to come from India.
It was initiated by Ministry of Agriculture and Forests. According to Programme Director of Research and Development Centre in Bajo, the Rupee crunch has helped our farmers.
“Rupee crunch has really helped our farming communities. It has promoted our farming communities to trap this opportunity of cultivating vegetables, which we can do it very easily in our country,” said the Programme Director, Gyambo Tshering.
About 20 varieties of vegetables and poultry products will go to 13 different mess of Punatshangchu hydropower project. “We started this programme in keeping with the government’s policy of self-sufficiency. Until now we haven’t been able to market our produce. So this time it is an opportunity to bring our produce here,” said Kinley Dendup, a supplier.
The farmers can earn about Nu.150,000 in a week.
