Poll day for LG election scheduled on 22nd December

The third local government election will be held on 22nd December. The Election Commission announced the LG election for Gups, Mangmis and Tshogpas schedule today. The Thromde election for Samdrup Jongkhar will also be held on the same day.

As per ECB’s notification, Dhamngoi Zomdu or selection procedure for local leaders and Samdrup Jongkhar Thrompon will start on November 3rd.

The candidates will have to file the nominations by November 22. A candidate will get 26 days for campaigning and it should stop two days before poll day.

ECB will start the operation of Paper Ballot Facilitation Booth and Mobile Voting Booth from 11th of December. The 22nd  of December will be the last day to receive the postal ballots.

According to ECB, the candidate should not exceed expenses beyond Nu 75,000 during the election campaign.

Meanwhile, all the eligible voters residing outside the Demkhong are encouraged to register and vote through postal ballots due to the pandemic.
