Upon the Royal Command, the Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering met with farmers in Wangdue district affected by the recent heavy rainfall. The recent continuous downpour is estimated to have damaged more than 540 acres of paddy in the district. More than 700 households in Wangdue Phodrang were affected.

The Prime Minister conveyed His Majesty’s message and concerns to the affected farmers of 11 gewogs in Wangdue Phodrang.

Farmers in Bjena Gewog were the worst affected by the recent disaster. From the total 15 gewogs, 11 gewogs were affected by the recent heavy rain.

“Do not think that by accepting, you will be burdening His Majesty. Instead receive the Kidu His Majesty has granted as a blessing,” the Prime Minister said.

“We do not wish to take any compensation for our slight damage amid this pandemic,” said Passang, one of the affected farmers.

“We are all enjoying peace and prosperity. Thanks to our benevolent Monarchs and the Government. We do not see the need to  accept the compensation,” said Gyem Dorji, another affected farmer.

The Dzongkhag administration is carrying out a detailed study and will compile a comprehensive report.
