Tsirang movie lovers’ plight

There is no proper movie hall in Tsirang. Whenever any new movies are screened in the Dzongkhag, the people rush to Damphu town to watch them. A small go-down in Damphu town serves as movie theatre for the movie enthusiasts there.

Our reporter, Yeshi Nidup, says they adjust themselves in small confined room, which can hardly accommodate 50 people. “Wooden planks serve as couch for the viewers. And there is no proper sitting arrangement,” added our reporter.

Despite all discomfort, people still rush in to enjoy the movie and to have a glimpse of the movie actors and the crew.

Meanwhile, a movie director and also an actor, Kinley Dorji, who was in Tsirang to screen his latest movie, said it was disheartening to see such movie screening hall.  “We feel ashamed. In our poster all the character are wearing gold and silver. Conversely, with all these elegant people in screen, we have to show this movie in a place that looks like a bird’s nests.”

Although there are few chairs in the hall, only those who enter the hall first can grasp them. Rest of the crowd will have to adjust themselves on the wooden planks.
