In a move to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols, Samtse installed 15 Close Circuit Television or CCTV cameras in various parts of the district. The initiative also helped monitor crime and anti-social behaviours.

The cameras with the ability to pan, tilt and zoom are monitored round the clock by Police and DeSuups from the control room located at the Samtse Integrated Check Post.

The team immediately informs the DeSuups or Police at the location if anyone is found violating COVID-19 protocols.

Everyday, at least ten people have to be reminded to wear masks properly and avoid crowding.

The cameras also help to monitor other issues.

“CCTV cameras have numerous benefits. The first is that we can reduce the rate of crimes in the district, secondly, it will help in waste management. People will not dump their waste everywhere. Likewise, it will also help police in reporting numerous traffic violations,” said Pasang Dorji, Samtse Dzongda.

Since the installation of the CCTV cameras last month, the team registered some 22 traffic violations in the district.
