Bhutan received three fire-fighting vehicles from Japan today. The Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Bhutan Office handed over the vehicles to the Royal Bhutan Police at the Fire and Rescue Services Division in Changzamtog, Thimphu earlier today.
The Officiating Chief of Police said the fire-fighting vehicles will further strengthen the capacity of fire and rescue services in the country. So far, Bhutan has received 30 such vehicles from Japan through the grassroots project.
And supporting Bhutan’s response to the pandemic, Japan also provided two utility vehicles worth about Nu 6 M today. The support is under the JICA’s project strengthening the COVID-19 testing and health service delivery of the country.
Dr Sonam Wangchuk, the Head of the Royal Centre for Disease Control said the support will address the acute shortage of vehicles which will help them to carry out sample collection from quarantine facilities. The Government of Japan has been rendering assistance in numerous fields in the country.
