A 26-year-old man is in the custody of Tsirang Police for the alleged rape of a minor. The suspect, working as a lab assistant in one of the schools in Tsirang, was arrested last Friday. The girl, who is 17 years old, is a student in the same school.

According to a source, the girl allegedly sneaked out of the house during the wee hours of the night to meet the suspect in the second week of this month. The girl was staying with her uncle as she was on medical leave. When her uncle asked about her whereabouts, she confessed to the alleged relationship.

The school administration informed the police about it after the uncle reported the case to the school authority.

They first met on Facebook in March this year.

Police are investigating the case.

According to the Penal Code of Bhutan, the rape of a child above the age of twelve years is a second-degree felony with a prison term of nine to 15 years.
