A 26-year-old man from Dagana is in the custody of Tsirang police for the alleged rape of a minor. He was detained in the first week of this month.

According to a source, the suspect and the 13-year-old girl first met through Facebook and were seeing each other since June this year. She went missing on the 5th of this month but returned home the next day. They reportedly spent the night together. While the suspect is working in one of the automobile workshops in Tsirang, she is a student of one of the schools there.

The gewog administration informed the police about the incident which led to the arrest of the suspect.

According to the Penal Code of Bhutan, the rape of a child above the age of twelve years is a second-degree felony with a prison term ranging from nine to 15 years.
