The people of Dagor in Shumar Gewog of Pema Gatshel will have a shorter road to their chiwog before the end of this Five Year Plan. Today, although it is connected with a farm road, the villagers say the road has not benefited them much. And they have been hoping for an alternative route for quite some time now.

At the moment, people prefer to use the old footpath to get to their village if they do not have many things to carry. They say travelling through the Tshatse – Dagor farm road is expensive and time-consuming

“If we have a farm road from here, it will reduce the travel time by almost an hour. Besides Dagor chiwog, the road will benefit Dalung and other villages in the gewog,” said Kezang in Dagor.

“The existing farm road passes through gewog centre, which is long. The road is also not stable,” said Dagor Tshogpa Sherab.

They say that due to the distance and high transportation charges, they cannot take farm products to the market.

The gewog administration expects to start clearing the new route in the next financial year.

“Constructing the road is not a problem. But we need a bridge in between. And that is why we could not start the work. However, now, we decided to construct the road. It will be complete before the end of this Five Year Plan,” said Shumar Gup Sangay Chophel.

According to the gup, the new road will also help revive the fields in Dagor chiwog which have been left fallow as they are not easily accessible.
