Dangchhu Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang is seeing increasing number of livestock predation by wild dogs, locally known as Phaw. In the last two months, farmers in the gewog lost 12 cattle to wild dogs attack. Eight more have been injured. Most attacks were reported in Doongdong Nyelsa-Norbooding chiwog.

Officials say livestock predation by carnivores is increasing every year. However, there is no such system for the farmers to claim compensation for their livestock lost to wild predator attacks.

As per the Gewog Livestock Extension official, farmers from almost all the chiwog have reported losing their cattle to predators. According to the record, three cattle were attacked by a tiger and the rest by wild dogs. Some locals say that wild dogs attack the cattle even when people are around.
