A road with more potholes than asphalt- Sherubling-Yueling in Trongsa

A better road always makes an exciting journey. However, in Trongsa, the people of Sherabling and Yueling villages of Nubi Gewog seem to have a lot of compromises to make, while travelling to the town. The fast dilapidating four-kilometre extended road is in a bad shape and calls for immediate intervention.

Riddled with potholes, pools of water lay on the road, and the blacktop-lining long peeled off, the monsoon last year has left a massive dent on the road and remains unattended ever since. Wheels hardly find a good ground to ply over.

According to the Thromde Representative Karma Lethro, the road is a nuisance to the office goers who mostly stay in Sherabling and Yueling.

“The condition of the road is so bad that it looks no better than the widening road. They complain of vehicle damages and inconveniences,” he added.

It is even worse for the taxi operators. While transporting passengers to the villages and ferrying farm produces back to the town, travelling through the stretch is like a nightmare.

A taxi driver Priti Rag Gurung, said the road is in terrible condition that it damages their vehicles.

Likewise, as per a resident of YuelingPhuntsho, due to its proximity to Trongsa town, it gives an impression of a developed place, but the road is even worse than a farm road.

“The blacktop started coming off after a few years,” he added.

The Department of Road in Trongsa blacktopped the road sometime in 2018 after Yueling and Sherabling were included as an extended town area. The road was then handed over to the dzongkhag.

According to the dzongkhag administration, incessant rainfall last year damaged the road. Although they don’t have any immediate plans to carry out the maintenance works, officials said it is included in the ongoing Trongsa town development action plan.

The developmental activities, which are being executed phase-wise, would not only improve road access to the villages but also bring about other infrastructural development in the villages.
