The Thromde election for Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde will be held along with the third Local Government election. The tenure of the present Thromde Tshogde will end in October. According to the Election Commission, voter education and awareness on COVID-19 safety protocols will be conducted soon.

The ECB will also facilitate mobile facilitation booths and postal ballots to all registered voters like in the last Thromde election.

Phub Dorji, the Director of the Department Of Civic & Electoral Training at the ECB said the election will be conducted the same as in Phuentshogling Thromde election if in case Samdrup Jongkhar undergoes lockdown during the election time. “Our officials will be exercising every safety measure and will go to the voters and collect it door to door. Thereby, voters need not come out,” he said.

The Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde election could not be conducted along with three other Thromdes in 2011 due to a lack of candidates from some constituencies.
