The Jomotshangkha town and Langchenphu Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar are under three-day lockdown beginning today after a 33-year-old woman tested positive for COVID yesterday. She tested at the town’s flu clinic after she had a cough and cold, and fever. More than 80 contacts have been traced so far.

She is now in isolation along with her husband and two children.

The woman who is a housewife received her first jab during the second nationwide vaccination program. She chose not to get vaccinated in March because she was breastfeeding.

According to sources, she had travelled to Samdrup Jongkhar town in a bus from Jomotshangkha on the 27th of last month. The next day she left for Pemathang Gewog in Samdrupchhoeling. She returned to the town on August 1st and travelled back to Jomotshangkha on August 3.

All contacts in these places have been quarantined.

The dungkhag detected about 160 COVID cases in May and June and lockdown relaxations started in June.
