What comes to mind when you hear ‘India’? Best friend, says 17-year-old Samten Tenzin Drolma of Motithang Higher Secondary School. Citing how India has shown their support towards Bhutan during the pandemic, Samten answered what India means to her and won the first prize in a recent competition held by the Indian embassy.

This year India celebrates 75 years of independence. Celebrating the year, the Indian embassy has been conducting various events. One of the many events was making a short video answering “What India means to me?”.

“So I said that India is my best friend, not just any kind of friend. I said India was my best friend because it has helped me in many ways.  I gave out the most current situation in which my best friend India helped me during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Samten Tenzin Drolma, a student from Motithang Higher Secondary School in Thimphu.

Neelam Phuyel from Changangkha Middle Secondary School and Karma Tenzin from Gedu College of Business Studies won the second and third prizes respectively. They also said India has shown impressive support to Bhutan. Around 40 students aged between 15 and 24 participated in the competition. And Ugyen Kelzang was awarded the silver medal of the Know India- Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz.
