Her Majesty the Queen Mother Tseyring Pem Wangchuck and Her Royal Highness Princess Chhimi Yangzom Wangchuck graced the award ceremony in Thimphu, yesterday.

Sabin Limbu will soon leave for Thailand on the YDF scholarship. Besides winning the prestigious title, he says he learnt essential life skills from other participants during the virtual camp.

“I consider myself very fortunate for getting this opportunity to participate in this camp. And I am happy to win this award. But even happier that the award will bring fame to my school and district”.

So far nine Golden Youth Award winners have received scholarships across Netherlands, Singapore and Canada.

The 13th Golden Youth Award supposed to be held last year was postponed to this year due to the pandemic. And with the pandemic situation still active today, the four-day camp was held virtually. Nearly a hundred students selected from across the country took part in the camp.

For easy access, the YDF came up with a website- Golden Youth Award Portal. Using the platform, the participants can interact starting from registration to submitting their creativity. However, some participants say the competitions conducted virtually is sometimes not very effective compared to doing it in-person.

“Because of the virtual event, we could not have sporting events, sometimes we have network issues and also we cant meet other participants in-person. However, we are happy with the YDF for successfully organising the camp,” said Yutso Tshezin Wangchuk, the second runners-up of the 13th Golden Youth Award.

The YDF is collecting such reports from coordinators in the dzongkhags for assessments. According to the YDF, the report will help in understanding the problems and improving its services in case similar events need to be held virtually again in the future.

The Golden Youth Award is a platform to inspire and motivate youth to excel holistically. The award was instituted in 2008.
