Khandu Wangmo has appealed to the High Court today. Last month, the Thimphu District Court sentenced her to nine years in prison for five charges, to be served concurrently.

The charges include abetting mutiny, criminal misappropriation of property, larceny by deception, illegal possession of a firearm and impersonation of uniformed personnel. She was also sentenced to 18 months in prison for solicitation of official misconduct and harassment. But she can pay in lieu of the prison term.

Including her, the Thimphu District Court convicted four individuals of commissioning of criminal conspiracy, mutiny, abetting mutiny and other criminal offences. They planned to overthrow the army’s Chief Operations Officer, Lieutenant General Batoo Tshering. The ten days appeal period ends today. Only the former RBG Commandant, Brigadier Thinley Tobgay has not appealed for now.
