The BOB Bhutan Premier League 2021 season reached the halfway stage. Tensung FC wrapped it on a high as they beat Gelephu FC 4-1 at the Changlimithang, yesterday. The defeat keeps Gelephu FC bottom of the league having failed to register a single point in the campaign so far.

It did not take long for Tensung FC to find openings in the Gelephu FC defence, which has conceded 40 goals in eight matches. Tensung FC forward Ngawang Tobgay broke the deadlock in the 16th minute before Thinley Wangdi added the second, two minutes later. Gelephu’s Phub Dorji pulled one back before the halftime whistle.

In the second half, Ngawang and Thinley were on the scoresheet again to complete a dominant Tensung performance. Four-one is how it finished and Gelephu FC needs to do a lot of work if they are to mount any sort of challenge in the second round of matches.

The league table after nine matches looks good for Paro FC, who are set to repeat their championship run of 2019. Meanwhile, Thimphu City cannot afford more slipups if they are going to defend the title.

Inconsistent Transport United has done well, so far, to keep hold of the third position. The mid-table looks set to be a battle of four teams with Tensung FC entering the fold with the win yesterday. Ugyen Academy, Druk Lhayul FC and High Quality United all would be keeping the pressure on Transport United.

Meanwhile, the bottom three teams have some soul searching to do if they are to avoid the humiliations of conceding goals at will like in the first nine matches. Paro Rinpung FC, Gomo FC, and Gelephu FC have conceded a combined 124 goals.

The league will resume with the second round on Saturday at the Woochu Sports Arena. Paro FC will look to consolidate their number one position, when they face Paro Rinpung FC.
