It was a goal-fest at a rainy Woochu Sports Arena in Paro as Transport United went riot against a lowly Paro Rinpung FC.

The home team, who has been leaking goals at will so far, got to the worst possible start when a lunging header from Transport United forward Sampa Tshering found the net in the 5th minute.

A brief spell of stability in defence followed, and in the 28th minute, a push in the box led to a penalty for Paro Rinpung FC. Striker Tandin stepped up, scoring the penalty with composure to level the score.

Six minutes later, Transport United regained the lead when Kinga Wangchuk’s 18-yard curler found the top corner. Transport added their third before the half-time whistle when Sampa Tshering’s cross found Tsenda Dorji, who had an open goal in front of him.

Paro Rinpung FC pulled once back through skipper Dawa Gyeltshen, who, from the halfway line, caught the Transport United goalkeeper off guard. However, a minute later, a quick Transport United counter-attack restored their two-goal cushion. Half-time substitute, SingayWangchuck, lobbing the keeper from close quarters this time around.

Paro Rinpung FC’s sloppy play in defence continued as Tsenda Dorji was left unmarked in the box in the 59th minute, who also scored into an empty net. Another defensive lapse in the 72nd minute saw Transport United add their sixth goal of the match. A minute later, Singay Wangchuk grabbed his second, taking his teams tally to seven.

And in the 76th minute, Phurpa Tenzin added the icing on the cake scoring from the centre circle and confirming a dominant Transport United display. Eight–two is how it finished, leaving Paro Rinpung FC with a lot of soul searching to do.

Paro Rinpung FC has the worst defensive record in the league, leaking 51 goals in eight matches. As a result, Paro Rinpung FC sits 9th in the league with just one win so far.

Meanwhile, with the win, Transport United moves back into the top three. However, the 2018 league champions are four points behind the league leaders, Thimphu City FC.

Tomorrow, the league returns to the Changlimithang stadium, where defending champions, Thimphu City, will take on Ugyen Academy.
