Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) should review courses offered in various colleges and consider consolidation and amalgamation of some courses offered by different colleges to pool limited resources, particularly qualified teachers. This is one of the food for thoughts from the latest book release of Dasho Zangley Dukpa. The Book was released yesterday.

The book is a documentation to look back at the development and growth of the education system in the country. The book also provides a bird’s eye view of the development of the modern education system.

“We have Gyalposhing College of Information Technology, College of Science and Technology and Sherubtse. All of them offer the same IT information in a different name and different degrees. So if you consolidate and put these courses into one, you can pull the resources particularly human resources. That way we will be able to improve the quality of graduates who can then compete for job-level markets both within and outside the country. Secondly, it’s time we should recognize the services of lectures and professors of colleges. We should see them frequently on BBS TV giving expert views,” said Dasho Zangley.

The book also reflects on the impact and influence of the western higher education systems on the growth of universities in third world countries and allow the readers to fully understand the functions and organizations of a university college like Sherubtse.

Dasho Zangley began his career as a teacher in 1970 and worked both as a teacher and a headteacher in all graded schools in the country. He was the first national principal of Sherubtse College.

He has published a number of articles and authored books on higher education systems and the teaching profession.

Dasho Zangley was conferred Red Scarf by His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo in 1994 when he was the principal of Sherubtse College.
