With Nganglam Throm in Pema Gatshel under lockdown until further notice, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) started facilitating the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) mobile voting booths yesterday. The facilitation is for those who are above 65 years and persons with disabilities. Meanwhile, other eligible voters are given the opportunity to vote through mobile postal ballot facilitation. More than 500 registered for both mobile and postal ballot voting facilities.

Seven teams have been deployed in Nganglam Throm and three other gewogs in Nganglam Constituency for the mobile voting operation which will complete tomorrow.

“In keeping with the risks of transmitting COVID-19, the ECB came up with this strategy to facilitate voting even during the lockdown,” said Sonam Tobgay, the Returning Officer of Nganglam Constituency.

He added the extension of lockdown will not affect mobile voting.

“We are providing the opportunity to vote through this facility to almost all the eligible voters in Nganglam Throm. In case the lockdown gets extended, we will make sure it doesn’t affect the voting schedule.”

There are 7, 426 registered voters in Nganglam Constituency for the upcoming bye-election scheduled on 29th this month.
