The World Bank’s Country Director for Bhutan, Robert J. Saum, called on the Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang today.
Robert J. Saum said it is an exciting position and an excellent opportunity. He said the World Bank values its relationship with Bhutan and appreciates its excellent relations with various institutions.
Welcoming the country director, Lyonchhoen said he was happy that Robert Saum had time to meet with Bhutanese officials in the agencies who are benefiting from the generosity of the World Bank.
Lyonchhoen also congratulated the World Bank for initiating the 50-50 campaign where the World Bank would support 50 countries and 50 organisations to develop natural capital accounting – a tool for factoring countries’ natural assets into their systems of national accounting.
He said that this effort would ensure that there is a system that enables full costs accounting. He added that Bhutan’s new National Accounts of its first natural, social, and human capital results were released earlier this year.
