The Royal Monetary Authority in collaboration with the commercial banks of Bhutan launched the point of sale system in the capital today. The point of sale is an alternative means of payment which will provide people with the option to make payments through their ATM cards.

The point of sale system will not only help reduce cash transactions, but also help minimise the expenses and risks involved with cash.

Speaking at the ceremony, the finance minister, Wangdi Norbu, said the launch of the Point of Sale system would help achieve the government’s objective of improving its services towards the people. Lyonpo also added that the government had issued orders to most of the organisations which included Bhutan Power Corporation, Bhutan Post and the Municipal offices to set up point of sale terminals.
