Ninth parliament session concludes

His Majesty the King graced the concluding ceremony of the Ninth session of the Parliament today.

On arrival at the National Assembly building, His Majesty the King was received by the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Chairperson of the National Council, the secretary generals of the National Council and the National Assembly.

In the last twenty one days, the National Assembly endorsed the Druk Gyalpo’s Relief Fund Bill and Education City Bill. The Assembly also endorsed Domestic Violence Prevention Bill and Road Bill after extensive deliberations. These two bills will be now be submitted for deliberations in the National Council. The Assembly also decided to levy Green tax for the vehicles.

The Assembly ratified three international conventions.

In the National Council, the members deliberated on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Bill and the Contract Bill. The Bills will be discussed in the 10th session of the Assembly.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Speaker Jigme Tshultim, said the Disaster Management Bill will be deliberated in the Joint sitting. The Land Bill was deferred to be deliberated by the next Parliament.

The Speaker said that in keeping with United Nation’s declaration of March 20 as an International Day of Happiness, the Assembly proposed to declare the day as a Gross National Happiness day.

The session concluded with the members of Parliament offering Tashi Moenlam to His Majesty the King.
