In past one year, 19,300 people from the camps in Nepal have been resettled in third countries. This takes the total number of people resettled to 65,000 as of May this year.

The Prime Minister yesterday informed the parliament that about 65,000 people have been resettled in eight countries.

In the United States alone, 54,000 people from the camps in Nepal have been resettled. And about 4,673 have been resettled in Canada, 3,492 in Australia, 621 in Denmark, 653 in New Zealand, 509 in Norway, 509 in the Netherlands and 224 in the United Kingdom.

“The Core Group of Countries led by the US is resettling the people in the refugee camps,” said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the Core Group of Countries for their compassion and generosity. He added that those who have been settled in these countries sent heartwarming reports of having found a new and dignified life of hope and confidence in the future.

Despite the intention of resuming bilateral talks on the subject with the Nepal Government, the Prime Minister said, nothing has transpired because of political instability in Nepal.
