As the common forum and door-to-door campaign for the bye-election began from Drepoong Gewog on May 27, 42-year-old Karma Lhamo from Thoshong Goenpa village under Tsakaling Gewog in Monggar is contesting as a candidate of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa. A mother of three holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Canberra in Australia.

Prior to contesting in this bye-election, she worked as a Tour Manager and Social Worker. She also served as a Member of Parliament from 2008 till 2013.

“As it is a bye-election, I have commitments for every gewog in the constituency. In Drepooong Gewog, I promise to blacktop the farm road, which connects Kidekhar in Monggar and Zunglen under Drepoong Gewog for the benefit of the public,” said Karma Lhamo.

Karma also promised to construct a motorable bridge over Kurichhhu at Drojiloong and improve the farm road of Tokari to Dorjilung in Tsamang Gewog. She also pledged to reconstruct all the structures of Tsakaling Primary School and promised to upgrade Chhaling Lower Secondary School into a middle secondary school.

And, fast tracking the establishment of Pongchila domestic airport in Monggar Gewog and Dorjiloong Hydropower Project is also included in her manifesto.
