Over 150 leaders from across the globe and Bhutan have come together in Thimphu to raise awareness on Bhutan as an investment destination and private sector development.
The Better Business Summit, which began yesterday, intends to explore private sector growth, sustainable investments opportunities, and job opportunities, among others.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay said the summit would be a perfect forum to resolve the contradiction on the vision for Gross National Happiness and necessity of Gross National Product.
The Prime Minister also said there is a lot the Bhutanese government has to do for economic growth. He said if the economy is small or stunted, it is because the government has not led the way. “The economic policy, foreign direct investments, industrial, and mineral will have to be looked at again.”
He also said Bhutan has lot to offer to the potential investors given the country’s political stability, availability of raw materials and cheap and reliable power.
Bhutan is one of the poorest countries in the world with entire gross domestic product of US$ 1.6 billion.
