Commemorating the 14th anniversary of the Coronation of His Majesty The King, Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering along with the government representatives and heads of the Armed Forces offered butter lamps and prayers at the Grand Kuenrey of the Trashichoedzong. Present at the ceremony were also representatives of students from schools in Thimphu.
On November 1, 2008, Bhutan celebrated 100 years of sovereignty with a public coronation ceremony for His Majesty The King. The year also marked the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the institution of monarchy.
