With many COVID-19 cases from remote villages, the Eastern COVID-19 Task Force urges people to follow the COVID-19 safety protocols. Today, COVID-19 patients from Khashatheng chiwog in Merag Gewog in Trashigang and Phajogonpa in Lauri Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar were evacuated and kept in the isolation unit in Dewathang. Nine people tested positive for COVID-19 from these two areas yesterday.

The Eastern COVID-19 Task Force officials along with the Jomotshangkha COVID-19 Task Force, health officials, DeSuups and Police evacuated eight COVID-19 patients from Khashatheng chiwog and one from Phajogonpa in Lauri Gewog. The journey to evacuate started at 8 am today.

Officials and the patients have to walk around 2 hours till Lauri Gewog and then brought to the isolation unit in Dewathang.

Gonpo Tenzin, a member of the Eastern COVID-19 Task Force was involved in the evacuation of the COVID-19 patients. “We are evacuating a huge number of COVID-19 patients to Dewathang COVID-19 isolation centre. During the evacuation, we are strictly following the health protocols,” he said.

The Task Force also urges people to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.

“His Majesty and the government are providing all the support and help to the people. Now we the people should follow all the health protocols every time. Khashateng is a remote area and from nowhere we detected positive cases,” said Gonpo Tenzin.

13 contacts in Khashatheng chiwog are under community quarantine. This is because all households were in contact with the positive cases.

Meantime, four contacts of the positive case from Phajogonpa are in quarantine at the Renewable Natural Resources Centre at Lauri Gewog.
