The status of abolishing the orderly system in the armed forces was discussed in the National Assembly yesterday.
What is the status of the orderly system of the armed forces, which as per the Police Act passed in 2009 was resolved to be abolished, questioned the Dewathang-Gomdar MP, Ugyen Dorji, during NA’s Question Hour.
“When we discussed the Police Act, it was decided that the orderly system in the armed forces would be abolished. We also decided that the officers would be given allowances,” said MP Ugyen Dorji. He said it has been almost three years since the Act has been passed but the system is still prevalent.
MP Ugyen Dorji also suggested that if the orderly system was entirely withdrawn, it could help solve the shortage of police and armed force personnel in the country.
The Minister for Home and Cultural Affairs, Minjur Dorji, said it would take some time before the system is completely withdrawn. He added that it was difficult remove the system immediately since it was in use for a long time.
“The orderly system is still in use but there are changes being made. Now we have to look at the pros and cons of removing the system before deciding to completely withdraw it”
Lyonpo also added that the cabinet has directed a thorough assessment into the matter and the ministry would work accordingly.
