Samdrup Jongkhar town is under complete lockdown yet again after five cases of COVID-19 were detected from the town during the mass screening yesterday. The town underwent a 72-hour lockdown on May 7 following a positive case from the community on May 6. And a restrictive reopening was initiated in Samdrup Jongkhar town from May 11 with the activation of the zoning system.

The town was preparing for reopening. As per Royal Command, the second round of mass screening was initiated in the town yesterday to detect residual cases, if any, before the complete unlocking of the town. However, the unlocking plans are in disarray after the detection of positive cases from the community. Health officials have traced more than 20 contacts of the positive cases so far and the contact tracing is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, health officials are conducting mass screening in other zones of the town.

 Kinley Wangchuk, Samdrup Jongkhar
