The National Council has decided to inform the government and the Election Commission of Bhutan to discuss the proposals on the gewog boundaries put up by the National Council members.

The National Council member of Haa, MP Tshering Dorji, said while rationalizing the boundaries of gewogs for the elections in 2008, the government had transferred Sertena and Fentena villages under Duenchukha Gewog in Samtse to Gakidling Gewog in Haa. This, he said, has caused inconveniences to the villagers of Sertena and Fentena as they have to walk for three to four days to reach the gewog centre. Since, the two villages are near Samar Gewog under Haa, the villagers had appealed to the government to club their villages under Samar Gewog. The government considered the request in 2007 by issuing a Kasho . However, the decision is yet to be implemented.

MP Tshering Dorji’s submission was supported by the Samdrup Jongkhar MP, Jigme Wangchuk. He said the need to club two chiwogs in Martshala Gewog to Pemathang Gewog was also discussed in past sessions of the parliament but the case has not been considered.
