Three men in their early thirties are in Paro police custody for allegedly breaking into the house of the Officer Commanding of Haa when the officer was out of the station on official duty. Of the three suspects, two are from Paro and the other is from Haa.

According to reports, the incident happened in the first week of March and the suspects were arrested after a month from three districts. They were arrested separately from Paro, Thimphu and Phuentshogling.

The suspects allegedly stole a safe with valuables from the house. And after taking out selected valuables, the safe was dumped in the Pachhu at Isuna bridge in Paro. The value of the burglary is not yet confirmed as the case is under investigation. According to police, almost 90 per cent of the belongings are recovered with the police scuba diving team retrieving the safe from the river on Saturday.  The safe still contained some gold ornaments such as broach (coma), bangles and a Zabchey Phob (precious burlwood cup).

According to sources, only Dzi bead and some valuables were taken for trade.

Meanwhile, a buyer and a mediator are also charged for involvement in the case and are currently on bail. All the belongings are recovered from the buyer’s possession from Thimphu.

Paro police is investigating the case in view of the conflict of interest.
