53-year-old Karma Gelay, an Architect, is one of the Thrompon candidates in Phuentshogling Thromde. Representing Rinchending constituency, he has nearly three decades of experience and worked as a consultant to various international agencies before contesting in the election.

He holds a Masters Degree in Urban Management Development. According to him, his qualification and experience can help develop Phuentshogling thromde. He adds that Phuentshogling is an important town in the country and the developments are not as expected. Given a chance, he wishes to accelerate the pace of the development.

“The base of development which all of us could see is very much disappointing, to say the least. Roads are still dusty, bridges are not adequate, quality of works are much to be desired. It is not only the thromde which is not providing infrastructure services timely, but all the agencies under the thromde have quite not been able to deliver the services at the pace we expected in this century,” he said.

He further adds that there seems to be a lack of coordination among the agencies and within the thromde. He wants to be the bridge.

“As a Thrompon, If I should be given the opportunity to serve, people working in the thromde should have the pride that they are working in the thromde, the pride that we are serving the community and the nation. We have intelligent people, well-educated people in the thromde, but there seems to be a system, an apathy that we are working and it will take time,” he added.

Karma Gelay started the door to door campaign on April 3. However, it was cut short due to the lockdown in the Thromde since the night of April 16.
