Among all the candidates contesting in the Thromde Elections, 40-year-old Chhungku Dawa is the only woman candidate. She is contesting from Phuentshogling Maed constituency in Phuentshogling. A mother of one, she was the Tshogpa of the thromde before contesting for the election.

She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Given an opportunity, she wishes to bring holistic development equally in all the constituencies. Addressing the water problem, improving public transport and ensuring a clean and green town are some of her pledges.

“My first priority will be constructing a community hall for the public in all constituencies. People who stay away from town may not have to come to town to clear bills and all. The community hall will provide the services. A person will be kept in charge of all these services. In this way, people can save their time and resources,” she said.

According to her, she has a better understanding of the issues in the town. She also adds that as a woman she wants to set an example to fellow women and young people.

“I have served as a representative in the town. I have seen lots of problems faced by people. We still face those problems. I want to bring changes in the town so that people in the town and extended areas could get better services,” she added.

She started her door to door campaign on April 3. However, it was cut short due to the lockdown in the Thromde since the night of April 16.
