31-year-old Sonam Dorji is the youngest of the three candidates contesting for the post of Thimphu Thrompon. He represents the Dechencholing-Taba constituency. Earlier, he worked in the private sector. Sonam Dorji has a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from Sharda University in India. He is father to a two-year-old son and earlier he worked as General Manager of a German Company distributor in Bhutan.

He is focusing on a clean, efficient and high-tech water distribution system to make the city more livable.

“I have about 15 manifestos. Of that, the most important is drinking water. We all know that there is a drinking water shortage. The inadequate supply of drinking water has led to a lot of issues.  Everyone should have access to enough and free water. Although there is enough water in some places, thromde needs to repair some old sources and provide enough water for all,” said Sonam Dorji, Candidate, Thimphu Thromde.

He also wants to develop pothole-free roads and solar street lights in Thimphu Thromde.

“There is road accessibility to almost all places in the thromde. However, the roads have not been maintained well. It has not been repaired timely and has caused many difficulties. The size of the potholes may seem to be small but it is a big issue. Therefore I have to form a separate group to monitor and maintain pothole-free roads in the city.”

Accompanied by his mother and brother, today Sonam Dorji is carrying campaigning across the thromde for the upcoming election.
