Thimphu City Football Club fails to make it into the Preliminary Round 2 of the Asian Football Confederation Cup 2021. They were beaten 2-0 by Club Eagles of the Maldives, yesterday. Club Eagles will now face Bangladesh’s Dhaka Abahani team in the second round of the qualifiers.

Thimphu City Football Club went head to head against the Club Eagles of the Maldives on their home soil yesterday evening.

Taking the home ground advantage, the host stunned the Bhutanese side early by opening the scoreline in the 9th minute of the first half. Despite several attempts, Thimphu City FC failed to equalise. The first half ended 1-0.

The story was no different in the second half as the champions of Bhutan continued to struggle to find the back of the net. To make matter worse, Thimphu City FC conceded yet again in the dying minutes of the game. Unable to make a comeback into the game, the match ended 2-0 in favour of the host team.

Thimphu City sealed the spot for this year’s AFC qualifiers from Bhutan as the champions of Bhutan Premier League 2020 with an impressive run of 13 matches without defeat in 14 games.
