People in Jigmeling under Dekiling Gewog in Sarpang were able to catch a suspected rabid dog today after the stray dog attacked four cattle, 11 dogs and a goat in the community, yesterday. They handed the dog to the Gelegphu Thromde Veterinary hospital, earlier today. The suspected rabid dog is kept in isolation and under observation.

Officials from the Gelegphu Thromde Veterinary hospital and the Sarpang dzongkhag livestock sector visited the site and met with the people of Jigmeling. Those who have come into contact with the suspected rabid dog, and the animals attacked by the dog, were asked to visit Sarpang Hospital for medication. Cattle and pet dogs attacked by the suspected rabid dog are also asked to be kept in isolation.

Dr Gyembo from the Gelegphu Thromde Veterinary hospital said mass sterilisation and vaccination of stray dogs and cattle in Sarpang was carried out recently.
