The nationwide COVID-19 vaccination programme began today. Over 80,000 people were vaccinated across the country, the highest being in Thimphu with over 17,000 inoculated. The Health Minister accompanied by other ministers and officials offered a thousand butter lamps at the Semtokha dzong earlier today before the historical vaccination programme.

In Thimphu, Ninda Dema, a 30-year-old woman, born in the year of the monkey, was administered the first dose of Covishield vaccine at 9.30 AM today at Lungtenzampa school. The jab was administered by Tshering Zangmo, a staff nurse born in the same year in line with Buddhist astrology. Following suit, Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering was administered the jab at his quarantine facility at Khasadrapchu in Thimphu.

The Prime Minister’s family members, Ministers, officials, and people from all walks of life started receiving the jab.

According to the Prime minister’s Office, the day saw a few reports of minor side effects and a couple of adverse reactions, but all are in healthy and stable condition.
