The lone aspiring candidate from Babesa Demkhong, the former Thimphu Thrompon, Kinlay Dorjee is elected from his constituency today. While the lone aspiring candidate from Chang Bangdu_Olakha constituency lost from his constituency. The Dhamngoi Zomdu for Thimphu started yesterday from the Norzin constituency.
Kinlay Dorjee was the only aspiring candidate contesting from the Babesa constituency. He secured 239 Yes and 14 No votes. There is a total of 979 registered voters in the constituency.
Kinlay Dorjee was re-elected as the Thrompon of Thimphu in 2016, securing 2,107 ‘Yes’ votes and 150 ‘No’ votes. Of the 7,278 registered voters then, only 2,130 turned out to vote of which 97 per cent were in favour of Kinlay Dorjee.
Meanwhile, aspiring candidate Kinley Tshering from Chang Bangdu_Olakha constituency secured 119 Yes and 144 No votes. He was also the lone aspiring candidate in his constituency. He also contested in the National Assembly election in 2018 from the South Thimphu constituency.
Enough water supply, solving traffic congestion and improvement of road condition remains some of the issues that people expect the new Thrompon to work on.
As per unconfirmed sources, there are four aspiring candidates in Thimphu including Kinlay Dorjee and Kinley Tshering.
Meanwhile, the lone candidate from Trashiling Demkhong in Gelegphu, Tshering Norbu secured 53 Yes and 5 No votes. There are 125 registered voters in the Demkhong. He contested twice in the past election for the post of Thrompon in 2016 and the National Council election in 2018.
