Samdrup Jongkhar Toed constituency under Samdrup Jongkhar thromde voted not to have a thromde tshogpa this time. 14 voters from 23 voted against the lone candidate in the bye-election held yesterday.

Out of 63 eligible registered voters in Samdrup Jongkhar toed constituency, only 23 voters turned up to cast their vote at Samdrup Jongkhar Primary School yesterday to elect their new thromde tshogpa. However 29-year old Tshewang Rinzin, the lone candidate secured only 9-yes votes from the total 23 votes cast.

According to some of the residents of Samdrup Jongkhar thromde, getting new thromde tshogpa won’t benefit them much as only six months is left for the third local government election.

Samdrup Jongkhar Toed constituency was left without thromde tshogpa since August 2019, as the former tshogpa went for further studies.

Meanwhile, 37-year-old Jurmi Wangdi was elected as the new tshogpa for Khandrophu-Minjiwoong chiwog under Serthig Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar.

Kinley Wangchuk, Samdrup Jongkhar
