Officials from the Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) in Thimphu seized over 1,300 kilograms of illegally imported green chillies. The chillies were intercepted from Babena vegetable market last week.

Accordingly, the BAFRA has imposed fines 10 times the actual market price of the banned chillies. The vendor will have to pay more than Nu 2 M in fines. The import of chillies has been banned since 2016 due to the high presence of pesticides.

According to BAFRA, the seized chillies was disposed of at the Memeylakha landfill.
