The challenge for researchers, scholars and civil servants in the country in finding the right platform to undertake and publish their works will soon be history. The Bhutan Journal of Management by the Royal Institute of Management (RIM) will now serve as a platform for aspiring researchers in the country.

The Bhutan Journal of Management is an academic and scholarly journal that publishes original research papers, review articles and case studies relating to public policy and management within the Bhutanese context.

Coinciding with the Birthday of His Majesty The King, the RIM launched the first Bhutan Journal of Management.

The first issue of the journal launched today is themed ‘Pioneering Research for Evidence-Based Decision Making in the Public Sector”. This is to inculcate a culture of research and evidence-based decision making through policy recommendation to the public sector.

The Director of RIM said the journal comes at a time when so much emphasis is made on research and evidence-based decision making.

“Through the journal, we aim to achieve four things. Firstly, nurture homegrown research culture through the establishment of our local publishing platform. Secondly, encourage our academicians and scholars in the country that is going beyond RIM trainees and faculty, to engage in research that is central to the discipline of public policy and management and share the discoveries. Thirdly inform public policy through policy recommendations and create a local research resource base,” said Sonam Pelden Thaye, the Director of the RIM.

Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering, who graced the launch, said research is not only the work of academicians, professors and senior management level personnel but of every individual.

“I would say a little late but a much-required initiative. As we talk about 21st-century activities, if you do not have a background, the basis of the decisions that we take,  then we will not be progressing that much,” Lyonchhen said.

The RIM also conducted the first-ever annual Research Exhibition today. Seven young aspiring researchers presented their research papers on different topics such as job satisfaction of civil servants, Performance-based incentives and participation of persons with disabilities in the electoral process among others.
