A new Bhairav Kunda Shiva temple in Jomotshangkha

To commemorate the 40th birth anniversary of His Majesty The King, a new Bhairav Kunda Shiva temple is being built in Jomotshangkha Dungkhag. The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the temple was held yesterday.

The new Shiva temple will be constructed just next to the existing Shiva temple in the Dungkhag. According to Hindu mythology, the area is regarded as a place with supernatural power. And it is worshipped by many devotees from India and Bhutan.

“Lord Shiva wandered the earth upon the bereavement of his beloved Satti Devi. Lord Shiva was inconsolable and was unconsciously wandering, carrying the corpse of Satti Devi on his shoulder and some body parts of Satti Devi fell in this area and that’s why this place is considered as spiritual,” said Bhaktram Rizal, a Pundit in Jomotshangkha.

Residents of Jomotshangkha dungkhag are hoping that after the construction of the new temple many devotees from India and Bhutan will come to worship and at the same time, it will also boost the tourism in the dungkhag.

“Before also it uses to attract tourist and after getting a new temple we are hoping that more tourist will come and it is a good opportunity for us,” said Gowmoti Rai, a shopkeeper in Jomotshangkha.

“Once the temple is constructed many visitors will come, after getting a new temple here, the environment will be different from the current one,” added CK Thapa, also a shopkeeper.

 Bhairab Kunda Shiva temple in Jomotshangkha is located at the easternmost edge of the country and it shares a border with two Indian states, Assam in the south and Arunachal Pradesh in the East.
