Garment vendors in Gelegphu get a new area to operate their business. Gelegphu Thromde allotted a new area at the new Industrial Service Center in Tashiling Demkhong. The Thromde asked the vendors to vacate the area last month, to construct a vegetable shed.

22 businesswomen have been operating their garment business since 2015. However, these women were worried after they were asked to vacate by end of January without a new location being allotted. They said their main source of income is from operating the business.

However, they are happy after the Thromde allotted them a new place.

“We are happy to get a new place,” said Binata Tiwari, a vendor.

“Now we are relieved as Thromde provided us with a temporary place. We are very happy,” said Karna Maya Limbu, another vendor.

Although Gelegphu Thromde will facilitate water supply and electricity, they will have to construct their own temporary sheds.

Thromde also plans to construct a permanent structure near their old shed for the garment sellers.
