With additional three mobile flu clinics under operation in Thimphu, residents in the outskirt areas and those who do not have vehicles will be able to avail themselves of the services. This will further enhance the coverage and accessibility of COVID testing in Thimphu.

So far, the only two mobile flu clinics were stationed in the south and north of Thimphu. But hereon, people as far as Hongtsho, Yoesipang, Genekha, and Wangsisina among others can get themselves tested without any hassle. The health ministry added three more flu clinics on 11th January.

Due to the travel restrictions amid the lockdown, getting a COVID test remained difficult for people in far-flung areas.

”We have enough flu clinics in the core town but not in the outskirts areas. It is even more challenging for those who do not have a car,” said Rixin Jamtsho, the Chief Programme Officer with the Health Ministry.

And people are appreciative of the initiative.

The principal of the Trashigang Goenpa in Hongtsho told BBS that the mobile service is convenient, especially for ‘elder citizens who have a high risk of infection’.

”Having access to such test will ensure that the community is free from the virus and possible transmission,” said Jamyang Lhamo, the Yoedsepang Tshogpa.

Likewise, people also shared that since no one knows if they are carrying the virus, such an initiative will prevent the further spread of the virus.

According to health officials, the three mobile flu clinics will operate on a rotational basis in eight places away from the town. However, the ministry requests people to visit flu clinics, only if they have flu-like signs and symptoms.

The first mobile flu clinic in Thimphu was initiated on 4th January with two vans. Ever since the number of people coming for test has been on the rise.
