Thimphu residents have more access to livestock products

With the demand for meat and dairy products soaring by the day, over 13 meat shops were allowed to open in Thimphu, starting yesterday. With this, Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation, BLDC, will replenish the stocks to the retailor shops, as and when required.

Today, the dairy and meat products from across the country are being supplied to the corporation’s outlet in Thimphu. The agriculture ministry and the BLDC will also locate more sources of livestock products from across the country to ensure that there is enough supply.

”We have discussed with the Livestock Department and the Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation for the supply for Thimphu residents. We have lists of meat shops that will operate,’’ said Kinlay Dorjee, the Thimphu Thrompon.

Since all zones in the capital don’t have livestock shops, the thromde will also identify shops that will sell livestock products, including meat.  ”We will identify shops among 250 retailers allowed to open recently. This is because not all zones have shops that sell dairy products and meat,’’ the thrompon added.

Meanwhile, the thromde is also planning to initiate mobile dairy outlets in zones that do not have access to the products, at all.
