Entertainment centres such as Drayangs will likely open if they comply with Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority’s (BICMA) Rules on Places of Entertainment and stop request system. Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering said this at the National Council yesterday in response to the question raised by the member of parliament from Gasa on allowing Drayangs to open amid the pandemic.

The Prime Minister said a committee led by the director of the Department of Small and Cottage Industries will be looking into the matter.

“Noting that closure of any form of business is bad for the economy but letting them operate without compliance to regulations is not healthy either. So I have told the Drayang owners that we will let them operate on two conditions; if they start following the regulations and stop the request system in Drayangs. I told them if they make it a place where one can come with family members, then they can operate,” Lyonchhen said.

The Prime Minister added that the Department of Cottage & Small Industry (DCSI) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs has been directed to form a committee with representatives from Trade, Thromde, Police, Culture, MoLHR to look into the matter. Lyonchhen said if the Drayangs fail to comply with the two conditions, the business license will be seized without any warnings.
